American Honda Sets All-Time Sales Record In August!

Torrance, Calif. Sept. 1 - American Honda recorded its best sales month ever in August with sales of 107,651, up 10.5 percent from last August and shattering the previous record of 100,709 set in August '97, according to sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

The record month was fueled by best-ever sales for the Honda Division and light trucks, and a 22.1 percent jump in Acura Division sales.

Honda Division sales of 95,716 were up 9.2 percent from August '98 -- topping the previous all-time mark of 89,392 set just last month -- and were up on a month-to-month basis for the 29th consecutive month.

Acura Division sales of 11,935 were the best of any month this year. Acura 3.2TL sales of 5,930 were up 664.2 percent, setting a new all-time mark.

Light truck sales of 22,178 were led by the best-ever month for Odyssey minivan sales. Odyssey sales of 8,133 were up 324.3 percent from August '98. Odyssey availability is improving as production from the new second shift at the Odyssey manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ontario, Canada, begins reaching dealerships.

"The slight increase in interest rates doesn't seem to have had any impact on consumer demand," noted Dick Colliver, American Honda Executive Vice President. "Demand continues to outrun supply for many of our models."
