Honda Civic

CIVIC ENGINEERING:
  • All Civic engines use 4 valves per cylinder. Compared to a 2-valve engine of equal size, 4-valve engines can flow more fuel and air. This helps the Civic achieve high-rpm performance while maintaining maximum fuel efficiency.
  • The Civic's refined 4-wheel double wishbone suspension delivers outstanding handling and control with a smooth ride. Multiple links called "wishbones" help keep the tire more fully in contact with the road, especially in turns and over bumps.
  • Honda's VTEC™ systems use a specially designed camshaft and cam lobes to vary the valves' lift, timing and duration. VTEC enables the engine to achieve a broader powerband, which helps to provide good low- and mid-rpm torque and fuel efficiency with high-rpm responsiveness.
  • Going uphill, the Grade Logic Control System automatically downshifts to eliminate "gear hunting," which can occur in other automatic transmissions. This provides more driving comfort. When traveling downhill, Grade Logic downshifts to help provide engine braking, giving you more control.
  • The CVT, or continuously variable transmission, uses a steel drive belt and two variable-ratio pulleys to give you the acceleration of a manual gearbox with the shift-free convenience of a standard automatic transmission (Civic HX).
